Making the digital world inclusive for everyone with TOTHOM

At the ARTIFACT project, our core objective is to map emerging professional competencies, protect creative rights, and promote a deeply human-centric transition within the digital artistic ecosystem. Achieving true inclusivity means building environments where nobody is left behind and we are proud to showcase a stakeholder completely dedicated to this mission: TOTHOM.

Digital Accessibility as a Right, Not an Afterthought

Based in Catalonia (with offices in Girona, Barcelona, and Munich), TOTHOM is a highly specialized digital accessibility company. Their sole purpose is to guarantee that the internet, mobile applications, and digital formats are open, usable, and compliant for all individuals, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.

They stand out as an officially ENAC-accredited inspection body in digital accessibility, reflecting Europe’s highest standards of regulatory auditing and structural verification (meeting international WCAG 2.2 and EN 301 549 guidelines).

Inside the Vision: Breaking Boundaries and Defending Pluralism

In our recent stakeholder mapping survey, Moritz Neumüller, Curator, Writer, and Accessibility Advocate for the Museum For All initiative, shared a profound perspective on how technology, accessibility, and artistic practice must converge to build a truly inclusive ecosystem:

“Sustainability depends on treating artists not just as users, but as critical contributors whose work helps keep AI systems accountable, plural, and grounded in real cultural life. Fair data practices (including consent, transparency, and compensation), open and accessible tools, and long-term support for experimental, interdisciplinary work are key.”

Neumüller also highlighted how creative networks and inclusive platforms help counter the standardized limitations of modern technology, emphasizing the unique, disruptive role that creators play:

“Artists shape AI primarily through their practice. Through ‘creative misuse’, they ‘break’ systems to uncover unexpected behaviors, revealing biases, glitches, and assumptions that usually go unnoticed… Their work strengthens Cultural Diversity by bringing in local perspectives, languages, and aesthetics that counter the tendency of AI to produce flattened, globalized outputs.”

Designing Inclusive Interfaces from the First Sketch

This call for accountability and pluralism is precisely what TOTHOM implements on a technical level. Their multidisciplinary team works across both public and private sectors to dismantle digital barriers, advocating for a structural approach where accessibility is baked directly into digital pipelines from day one, rather than fixed later.

Their end-to-end expertise actively supports the creative and cultural tech sectors through:

  • Inclusive UX/UI Design: Reviewing visual features and screens from initial prototypes to ensure smooth experiences for those navigating with screen readers, keyboard-only setups, or specific cognitive needs.

  • Accessible Web Development: Directly implementing clean, semantic code that avoids friction and respects universal standards.

  • Document Remediation: Manually structuring and tagging PDFs, slide decks, and digital media formats to maintain absolute readability for every single user.

  • Long-Term Training: Mentoring design and technical teams internally so that accessibility becomes an intuitive, foundational part of daily workflows and creative processes.

  • Accessibility Audits & Ongoing Monitoring: Assessing digital products against WCAG 2.2 and EN 301 549, and monitoring over time to catch new accessibility barriers early, as changes and updates are made.

By matching rigorous technical capability with a deeply human-centered mindset, TOTHOM and its collaborative network act as an essential bridge, helping organizations realize the true potential of digital humanism by designing tools that everyone can use and experience.
